This is a hilariously self-deprecating PSA on rehab. Superb stand-up that could really help a lot of people. Thanks for sharing your story…and it’s good to have Baby J back on the street!
RRR
RRR RRRules. Epic! Stunning! Bombastic! Superb fantasy/action sequences. Hold on…did that guy just throw a tiger at someone? 3 hours kind of flies by. What a RRRide. bRRRace yourself.
NOPE
For me, upon first screening of Nope, I really liked the look of this movie…but I didn’t really get it. I ended up watching it again and…bam!…what a masterpiece. The floodgates of symbolism, Easter eggs, themes, hidden messages, foreshadowing, allegories, metaphors, and clues opened wide and my appreciation for the craft of this film multiplied by a factor of 613.
Glass Onion
I did not expect this movie to be so funny…but it was! Really entertaining…and outstanding use of the brilliant Beatles song namesake.
Andor
Feeling Star Wars fatigue after Obi Wan Kenobi, I was reluctant to check this one out…but wow, this series is absolutely superb. The look, the acting, the plotting…this takes the saga into dark, gritty, non-merchandise-y, mature territory…and everything works! Powerful stuff. Fight the Empire!!!
DC League of Super-Pets
As a guinea pig enthusiast, great to see the prominent role guinea pigs play in this movie and the fact that they nail the guinea pig ethos…also, a very funny, clever and colorful film.
The Boys
In a high speed boat chase, a yacht being chased by sharks rams into and through a whale…and that’s not even the most bonkers moment of this bonkers series. Wildly entertaining, fabulously performed thinly veiled social commentary. This wonderfully written show is satirical, allegorical, hysterical, grand spectacle…and most of all: DIABOLICAL!
Facing Nolan
Incredible journey through the life and career of one of baseball’s most dominant and feared pitchers. Really made me nostalgic for the days (not long ago) when MLB used to be compelling and game scripts weren't ruled by over analyzing flawed analytics…or maybe that’s just me being a Twins Fan in 2022.
The Minneapolis Riverfront
Having stared across the Mississippi at downtown Minneapolis for many years, I’m struck by how much impressive growth and change has taken place in a relatively short amount of time. Really, a stunning place to be.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent
Perfectly crafted fun, cleverness, and self-deprecating silliness. This movie is an A+ on multiple levels. Nicolas Cage is back!!! (Not that he went anywhere)
World's Largest Hockey Stick and Puck
There are a lot of spectacular “World’s Largest…” roadside attractions, but definitely one of the best, most dramatic…and just plain cool…is The World’s Largest Hockey Stick and Puck. Always worth a visit whenever you are in or near the great Iron Range town of Eveleth, MN—home of the US Hockey Hall of Fame.
Paul McCartney
I never tire of Beatles music, post-Beatles solo music, The Beatles origin story, or Beatles biographies. I recently did a back to back reading of Paul McCartney: The Life and Paul McCartney: The Lyrics. The Life overflows with collected facts and moment by moment details; in The Lyrics, you actually hear directly from Paul. Fascinating stories, fascinating life…an amazing talent that continues to make great music.
Cubes
I’m very proud of my ability to solve the traditional 3x3 Rubik’s Cube. Learning the 5x5 Cube is way, way WAY next level. An extremely labor intensive and time consuming process…at least it was for me…but very satisfying.
The Book of Boba Fett
Following the trend of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett continues to elevate the Star Wars universe. Very well told stories that look absolutely extraordinary. The attention to detail in the visuals is incredible. Makes me want to collect and play with the action figures again.
The Movies That Made Us
Finally got around to checking out this series on Netflix. Very inspirational and well told stories about the wild twists, turns, blood, sweat and tears that went into creating a whole bunch of iconic films.
Riverbend Skate Path
In 2022, Warroad Minnesota’s 5.2 mile long Riverbend Skate Path broke the record for the longest skate path in the US. Super fun time roadtripping to this far north Minnesota/Canada border town to check it out…during the first annual FriluftFest no less. Warroad, MN, a.k.a. Hockeytown USA, certainly lived up to its name.
Lost in Space
This has got to be the most underrated series on Netflix. Great cast, story arc and production value. After 3 seasons, it ends on a really high note and nice to see the constantly crisis averting Robinsons finally get a break. Now, how can I get one of those robots…..
Ryan George YouTube Videos
I stumbled upon Ryan George’s Pitch Meeting series and then discovered his countless other hilarious one-man-show videos. This guy is really funny and extremely clever. His video output is immense and it must be a ton of work to constantly develop so much “tight” content, but he makes it look super easy…barely an inconvenience.
Don't Look Up
I just saw my top movie of 2021 on the last day of 2021. Thinly veiled and hilarious social satire…or a hyper-real documentary about the end of the world?
Get Back
I just watched an 8+ hour documentary (over multiple sessions) and as soon as I finished, I want to watch it again. This is an unbelievable, remarkable piece of work. Getting to be a fly on the wall as the Beatles workshop their creative genius is just pure joy. 8+ hours and not a wasted second with this source material. I miss being in that room. Thanks for letting us in!!!
